xref's to dxf files

I'm having problems importing a dxf file from a file that is constructed using xrefs in 2000i. I can bind the xref drawing and when I dxfout this file to a 14dxf everything seems fine. When I jump into 14 and try a dxfin...no dice. of course when I save the 2000i dwg file as a 14 and open 14 to dxfout everything works. What I want is to dxfout a bound xref in 2000i as a 14dxf and then open 14 and import the dxf. All this jumping around is a pain. Any ideas how I can accomplish this purely from 2000i? I have to have the dxf files backwards compatible to probably ver.13 for those few people out there that don't upgrade. \

Can you have the drawings sent to you in R14 DWG format instead,would cut out alot of legwork.

Well...I create the drawings in 2000i, but we still run 14 and 13...and I have to take into consideration customers that use some other cad software too. You could say I'm the culprit but I'm just trying to get everybody to move a little faster into the 21st century. I like the xref command in 2000i better too.
