Finally made the plunge and got a new PC at home. Dell had a one day offer about a week ago for a free upgrade to a flat panel so I had to jump.
Specs:
P4 2.66 GHz @ 533 MHz
256 DDR333 (will get 256 more in a week)
40 GB HDD
16x DVD
48x CDRW
128 MB Geforce FX 5200 Dual Head
17" LCD monitor
motherboard supports SATA drives, has 4 ddr slots and also supports Intel's HyperThreading CPUs so this should last another 3 years. Does very well on CAD so far (not bad on games either ;) )

I run a Dell Dimension pii 266 with 6.4gb hard disk, 350Mb ram and 32mb ati video ram and Win95 2.1.
Coreldraw 9 and Acad 2000i works sweetly, crashes very rarely.
My school dells are black plastic and have poor build quality particularly the dvd and cd drives. Push the case and the drive opens up !
They have Xp and Acad 2004/MDT 2004/Inventor 7 and Xp has never
crashed since june yeeeee haaaaaaa !
Enjoy your new machine !

Thanks Nick. I look forward to XP, well kinda. W2K has been a rock stable OS for me. I feel like leaving an old friend. Been using it for 3 years and now here is an all new OS.

F7,
And i thought you were a MAC man? You will love XP.
I use win2k at work, but my home machine runs xp. And its just so much
nicer. Its how windows should have been in 95.
The specs look good. I would love a flat screen, but no budget unfortunately. The RAM is a tad light though dont you think.
Being that RAM these days is reasonably cheap. I have 512 when i bought this C 12 months back and am thinking of upgrading again soon (TAX reasons)
Hows the weather treating you, all back to normal now after the big one a month or two?

Naw, just use a skin of OSX in W2K to look cool and to throw people off ;)

Yeah gonna get another 256 in a week or so. Dell's upgrade seemed a little high to me. Actually it runs pretty good for 256 ram.

You referring to the hurracane in Sept? Not bad now, getting cold finally but a few days this week will be in the mid 60's (F). Hope all is well with you, cheers :)

Specs:
P4 2.66 GHz @ 533 MHz
256 DDR333 (will get 256 more in a week)
40 GB HDD
16x DVD
48x CDRW
128 MB Geforce FX 5200 Dual Head
17" LCD monitor
Finally bit the bullet and got my Dell yesterday with specs similar to yours.
Specs:
P4 2.8GHz @ 533 MHz
512 DDR @ 333MHz
80 GB HDD
16x DVD
48x CDRW
128 MB DDR Geforce FX 5200
17" CRT monitor
Can't wait to load Mechanical Desktop 6 with Power Pack and try out a few big drawings to see how it handles them. My old system was a P3 550 Mhz with 256 Megs of ram ran Autocad pretty good, but couldn't handle MDT very well.

Cool, you should be surprised at it's speed. Not sure how much faster MDT6 will be but you can always load Unreal Tourn. 2004 or Call of Duty to see how it does ;) Have fun :)
