Hi,

I was wondering if i could get some help here. I have a copy of a drawing that's in paper format. Then, i went to scan it thinking i can convert it to DXF format that i can then trace it off using Autocad so that i can have the same drawing in DWG format. The reason for this is i don't have the drawing in the DWG format and all i've got is just the drawing in the paper. Anyway, It works but the drawing is in a very poor shape after opening it using AutoCAD LT 2005 plus it takes ages for me to trace the drawing off. I was wondering if there is an efficient way of doing this.

Thank you in advance

Turning a raster image into a vector drawing is never really going to work properly. As one member said a little while back...to do that is the Holy Grail of Cad. Basically, if you need to reproduce the hard copy drawing as an electronic drawing, you need to redraw it in acad from scratch.

Sorry about that...but that is the reality..... :(

use the AutoCAD IMAGE command to insert the image. Use the SCALE command to scale the image to this size you desire. Then use the draw tools and trace over the image.

I actually installed a freeware raster to vector software package (wintopo) yesterday and so far it seems to work quite well, obviously i cant use it for every type of drawing, but for something that doesn't have to be too accurate it saves me a lot of time.
