This is relatively a very simple question and shouldn't be too hard for you guru's to answer.

I've recently upgraded from AutoCad 2000 to 2006. I create gas piping for an oil field. I use lines that connect to each other to represent the piping. Now, with this new 2006 I can't seem to get the lines to auto-align themselves like 2000 did for me. Pretty much what I'm asking is how do I go through the tools and configure my AutoCad so it will make it so my lines will auto-align themselves to be perfectly aligned with each other? Before, with 2000, the lines would create a small "X" showing where on the particuliar piece or line I would like to connect. Any help would be very much appreciated. If you need a more detailed question, since this one wasn't very well detailed, just ask. Thank you again!

Just a couple of questions to try to understand what you are trying to achieve.....

Is the small "x" an actual point in the linestyle, or is it a NODE ? If it is a NODE then check the following variables....
PDMODE....set to say 3, PDSIZE....set to suitable size (say 1)

By aligned do you mean parallel with each other, or do you mean one pipe joining another at right angles ?

Ok, say I have a straight line going vertical. I want to put a horizontal line, with one of it's edges, at a perfect point meeting with the vertical line. The horizontal line and vertical line would meet by the program auto-aligning it for me. Therefore; the line wouldn't overlap or be too short when connecting them.

My AutoCad2000 let me just scroll over the line I want to connect to and show me a little box with an "X" in it showing that they will connect at a perfect point or angle. I would then click that little box with the "X" in it and the lines would match up perfectly.

Make sense? *prays*

Are you doing all this as a plan view, or as a section view ?

In any event, it sounds like you are trying to use OSNAPS to connect the horizontal line to the vertical line....The INTERSECTION snap mode has a small "x" !!!

edit..... I'm not familiar with pipework.....which is why I'm having a bit of difficulty following what you are trying to do...sorry !!

That osnap thing was it! Thank you very much! You rock! Thanks again!

another thing you could do is set your fillet radius to 0, then fillet the two lines. it's a little quicker......
