After playing with inventor 7 on an inservice training day I am enthused to design something, some product or mechanical engineering device.
After learning the accuracy and geomtry of Acad it was a jump of a cliff
for me to use inventor. Why I hear you say.
Well you start off by putting in rough sizes and then modeling a shape, easily then adjust ing the sizes (dimensions) and tweaking the model and design to suit. Modelling knowledge from 3D in acad translates easily.
You really do invent the shape and model and tweak sizes as you go.
I have not started using parametric elements, eg constraing a hinge design to limit movement only in the direction that allows a hinge to operate correctly.
Does anyone want to give me a challenge to model something ?
A new mouse, pen, kettle, handle, mug, glass, monitor, keyboard design ?
Animation next .........

hi,
i'm trying to convince work to buy inventor as by the sounds of it its similar to pro/engineer which i was tought at uni so i should pick it up pretty quick. however most of our stuff is 2D designs anyway so anything that needs to be done has to be on the old 2000 program.
anyway whats the difference between inventor series and inventor professional?
thanks

I think it has FEA and STRESS ANALYSIS etc.

ah, well that would be usefull but i dont really need it so i'll stick with the cheaper one, just need it for the improved 3D.

You will be shocked how good it is and you can always go back and tweak any dims on a modelled part. You cannot do that in acad.
Also creating 2D layouts is a snap. Automatic views are created.

yeah, sounds real like proE, which saved my life (well my degree) on more than one occation when i realised i had a matter of hours not weeks to finish a project... anyway i digress... i now have an evaluation copy so i'm gonna try it out and see whats what

Why didn't anyone give you a challenge? Ok, so here's one:
Are you familiar with those huge, almost banana-shaped objects that attach to the back of telephones and are intended to be used to relieve strain on your shoulder when talking on it?
How about reshaping that thing so it actually is comfortable? Of course that may require use of a different material than the usual hard rubber/plastic composite or whatever that is, but think about the shape for your Inventor Challenge.
Also, for extra credit, make it so the phone is easy to hold in your hand at the same time with the shoulder attachment still on it. That thing can be so cumbersome when you try to hold the whole apparatus in your hand and NOT use your shoulder.
There it is. And, ya, I do have a fuzzy picture in my head about a solution. Would like to see yours.

A headset !
Sorry too busy MTB riding at night, :D great fun, three teachers off so I'm running around trying to be organised.
I posted up that a while ago. If you are an Inventor User then you should do the Peer Hoffman Inventor World Cup.
