View Full Version : MTEXT - Symbols & Height

Does anyone know where I can find a table of Unicode values for symbols such as square root, omega (for ohms), etc. Using the symbol tab in the Mtext editor for anything but degrees, diameter and +/- is very cumbersome. Back in the good ol' days of DOS it was possible to just hold down the ALT key and enter a code with the numeric keypad. This still seems to work for a few characters, but not others.

Also, I'm unable to enter lettering higher than 1" using MTEXT. This would be fine for Paperspace, but most of my work is simple sketches, and I'd rather enter text in Modelspace, until I can work in Paperspace & Layouts without messing everything up several times before getting it right. I have to accept the tiny text, then select it and change the height in the Properties window. Is there a less cumbersome way to do this?

check the Windows CHARACTER MAP, it lists all available thingy's for any given font you have installed.

Try here for the ASCII characters - when using the %% autocad code. (Its been a while since I used any of that lark)

Thanks for the tips.

I finally found a direct(?) way to enter Unicode for special characters. I was floundering about in ACAD Help trying to find something else, and came across:
Autocad 2002 Users Guide
Hatch Notes & Dimensions
Notes & Labels
Work w/ Text Styles
Assign Text Fonts
Unicode & Big Fonts
(I hope I didn't leave any levels out!)

It said Unicode can be entered from the command line by entering \U+nnnn where nnnn is the hexadecimal code for the Unicode character. This works for TEXT and DTEXT, but not for MTEXT. Also, it's just about as clunky as using Windows Character Map.

I just use the character map like Hendie said. Mtext > Symbol > other..
"GDT" and "Symbol" are the fonts I use the most for symbols. I can visually see the different characters without having to remember the different codes.
As far as entering text larger than 1" (in mtext), all you have to do is type the text FIRST > right-click > "select all" > enter text height > enter > press "o,k," and your done. (it's easier done than said) You can make it 1,000" or whatever you want.
