Since we're all heavy computer users here, thought i'd link 2 programs i think are both a must have. CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) and ExplorerXP (http://www.explorerxp.com).
CCleaner (stands for Crap Cleaner) is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history and Temp files. 1st time i ever ran it, the program found 1.8GB of stuff and cleaned it all out.
ExplorerXP is a very fast, small, compact and innovative freeware file manager for Windows 2000/XP. Unlike the regular Windows Explorer, it displays the total size of each folder and allows you to browse multiple folders from a tabbed interface. It's just a revamped version of Explorer with lots of extras. Tabbed interface, Mutliple file renaming in one step (this is the most use i get out of it, REALLY nice), Merge/split tool, Groups, and a badass move/copy feature.
the only real use i get out of it is when i'm dealing with serveral directories at once (up at work) or i have a massive folder of files i need to rename (like Multiple *.DWG files, or downloading images to your computer and renaming a hundred "IMG_001.JPG" files to "Vacation Day - 01" etc. etc. or something....)
Just thought i'd share a few programs that are 100% free and are really nice to have. Here's some screens....
