I am a newcomer to Autocad. I am learning to use it with help from the Cadtutor tutorials. My first problem is with drawing simple lines. I have probably set soething wrong somewhere by mistake. When I draw a ine it does not appear on the screen. I can still select it so it is there. If I draw a rectangle that appears ok. I can change the line width and colour and it still does not appear. Selecting the line shows the colour has changed but it is still invisible. What have I done wrong?

what colour have you set the line to in the layer properties ?
it may be that you have picked a colour wey close to the background colour of your screen.
try changing your screen colour to black (if it's not already), then change your line to BYLAYER and set the layer colour to cyan.
also, try typing REGEN or REGENAUTO

The colour is set to 'by layer'. Hence drawing a rectangle draws as a black rectangle. Changing the line to to red against a pale green background made no difference.

try turning REGENAUTO to On, try typing regen.
I assume you've checked all layers are on etc.
other than that, it sounds like it could possibly be a graphics card issue.
Do you have all the latest drivers installed for your card and monitor ?
you could try adjusting your graphics acceleration and see if that makes any difference.

does this happen in all drawings, or just one ?

I am only using one layer at the moment. I don't think it is a hardware issue as the lines worked ok at first. More probably a brain issue! This is my first attempt and only drawing done so far. My next step was to start afresh on a new drawing and see if the problem is still there. Hopefully it will have gone away. But I still like to know how to correct things as I go along. I assume I have all the latest drivers it is a brand new Dell PC. I will try your suggested REGENAUTO when I get home tonight. (Autocad is at home, and I am at work!)

Thanks for the help hendie. I tried autoregen and regen to no avail. I have started again in a new drawing and the lines appear ok. Problem must have beent due to beginner's inexperience. Thanks again.
