View Full Version : making solids

The figures below are a screen shot of a shape I made in AutoCAD 2006. The first one show the front and the second one shows the back. As you can see from the back, it's hollow inside, and so the shape is not a solid but a collection of round surfaces. Now I need to cut it along the lines marked in red. I can't use the slice command since that only works on solids. If I covered the opening in the back with one more ring shaped solid, would there be a way to convert it into a solid?

How did you create it ? I created a similar component by using successive cylinders and subtracting them as required. Slice seems to work on this piece.

That might be what I'll have to do. I just didn't want to re-create the thing all over again.

Or, simply draw the section and then use REVOLVE to creare the solid.

Too easy!! Does it show that I don't use 3D very much?

Thanks a bunch! If only I had known.
