Changing line colours in a viewport

Is there any way to change the colours of an object in a viewport so that that viewport is independent of any other viewport or the objects in model space?

I do not want to copy the items in model space and change colours that way.

You could try using Layer States Manager; set the layer colors the way you want for a viewport and save that state in the Layer States Manager. The colors of the objects have to be Bylayer though. It's a pain remembering to switch Layer States between viewports, although I've seen a.vlx that does it automatically.
