Hoping someone can advise, I currently have a working parametric family where I have set up an array to add additional items within the component and realign everything as the numbers increase or decrease.

The problem I have is I want to be able to reduce the multiple elements from one to many but using the array I always have at least two, reducing to one creates an error report, is there another approach I should use to achieve this?

as above really, working on a project with another company, they are using revit and we are using autocad.

We have requiested some drawing from them but they say they cannot save the revit files in a manor in which they can be opened in autocad. They have said " although we can produce autocad dwg files they will be very poor quality and require time to export"

I always thought that if you export the files as dxf they would be fine and still represent a drawing accuratly within Autocad just without the information required by revit??

Can anyone put me right or state if this is true/not true.

Thanks in advance

Exploded Axon view of a Family?

Is it possible to create an exploded view of a nested family?

I have a parametric nested family which I want to load into a project and create an exploded view, I don't know if this is possible.

Alternatively I thought I could load the individual family parts into a project and then add the parametrics but unless I'm mistaken this isn't possible as the project file doesn't allow dims to be labelled to ref planes - is this right?

Oh how I wish I had been allowed to have some training!!!

Are there any good tutorials out there to help with this sort of thing?

Continuing with doing Revit the hard way...

I have been adding data to my child/nested families, purging and reloading to my parent family, this was going well until I tried adding an email data reference to a child part.

This is then added to grouped family containing several of these parts, this group is then loaded into the parent (maybe I'm pushing my luck with three levels?). I had actually used the group tool and found that the data was not visible, after considering that I didn't need the elements grouped within this mid level family (they would afterall be grouped as a single family when placing them) I ungrouped all elements, the email data now is visible in the properties, however it is not transferring to my parent.

As with my last posting I have ensured the catergory (generic) is set for sharing and I have tried Transfer Project Data but so far to no avail, I'm hoping someone will have a little gem to help me out ;)

Hoping you all can follow my scenario.

Section cut display not showing from family

I am attempting to learn Revit the hard way, preparing a parametric model (non building related - it's food!) for a BIM talk - demonstrating that almost anything can be BIM compliant (not my idea!).

Anyway fumbling through online tutorials and a reference book I have built some families that I am loading into a single family rather than a project, I have my parametrics working and now am looking at get the families emblished with data and appropriate display settings, here is where I am currently coming unstuck.

I have edited the materials of one of my base families to include a cut pattern for sections, this works fine in the display for that family but when I update the composed multiple family the individual part is not showing the cut pattern.

If anyone has a suggestion I'd be grateful.
