i copy a drawing then paste it in to another drawing , it drop some where else beyond my view can i set the inserting point

Use copy with basepoint, or use insert command if copying entire drawing (MS objects).

You can try Ctrl + Shift + C, select BasePoint, and then goto second drawing, used Ctrl + V to paste it with Basepoint, or Ctrl + Shift + V to paste it as an anon Block with basepoint

i using 2008 i paste in to my drawing but i don see any message box for me to decide where i put the drawing is just drop in some where but sometime i paste it and the paste item is stick wit the cursor so i can control where to put in the paste item

You don't specify the basepoint when pasting, you specify it when you copy it.

 

Ctrl + Shift + C, as the others have said.

Also make sure that the new drawing has the same units set as the old one. I work in millimetres and someone had their drawing set to inches, when I imported their work I couldn't find it as it was way too small.

It happens a lot when drawings get exchanged between architects and engineers, a lot of architects use millimetres and most engineers use metres. A constant problem here.

And that's why i do my drawings in feet and inches ......

also when you copy with base point use points 0,0,0. and when you paste, paste to 0,0,0. this will make sure it comes in exact location as where you copied it from. if that is like they said that both drawings have same units.
