Helprequired
I'm a bit out of shape and forgot stuff so I'm looking for the quickest and best way to make this as smooth and precise as possible - the curves are primarily giving me problems Also, should I use width for lines or create the object properly and then fill it with a solid hatch? I believe the latter to be the correct approach. https://s29.postimg.org/yuoiau0nb/helpzor.png
SLW210
Can you post the Image to CADTutor? Use Go Advanced>Manage Attachments. I am unable to use your link at work.
ReMark
Good luck trying to recreate that given the lack of sufficient dimensions and radii. Since you have a reference dimension you could bring the image into AutoCAD using the IMAGEATTACH command, scale it using the REFERENCE option then trace over it using polylines. Assign the polylines a width to mimic the "thick" linework. BTW...it won't be 100% accurate but it might just be close enough.
ReMark
Here is a rough idea of what I was talking about.

ReMark
Yes, you did. Did you see my rough sketch? Another option. You could draw the centerline of the object using a poyline then offset to either side. Cap the ends then apply a solid hatch.

Yeah, that's what I thought - or do the outer line and offset it for X since they are basically the same? But how do you do the smooth edges as in the image, that's what I'm struggling the most
ReMark
Smooth edges? You mean the curves? I went back and gave it (a small portion) a second try. Outline was done with a combination of arcs, splines and polylines. I filled it in using a solid hatch. steven-g
There is a free program called Inkscape, it does a really good job of extracting edges from images. A bit of an effort to learn but with nice images like this it does it in no time. The top part is at it came in from the dxf that Inkskape created, the lower was done using a combination of boundary, exploding the resulting regions and then pedit to convert the splines. Though in this case the splines might be ok Profile.dwg

I try to use arcs but they never get so curvy as they should. I try filleting polylines with radiuses to make them somewhat look good and when possible use blending but it never really looks as the original :c
ReMark
Try steven-g's approach. It's better than my suggestion.
Helprequired
Still, I'd like to confidently know how to do it in AutoCAD
ReMark
There is no "confidently" when you're eyeballing (i.e. - tracing an image) it. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt to get the results you want. You don't think I did that in one smooth movement do you?
BIGAL
Two options with plines do a lot of little straights use Pedit and you can use spline or fit. As Remark said "Outline was done with a combination of arcs, splines and polylines"
SLW210
Just takes practice and a little patience. I would use the steven-g suggestion. Here it is done with Illustrator (similar to Inkscape). helpzor new.dwg
OMEGA-ThundeR
The result isn't great (perhaps you have a better quality image), but you could try this website: http://www.autotracer.org/ and export to DXF (also a CAD format). The result i get with the image on this forum isn't great, but it beats using an image and tracing over it.
SLW210
Here is a conversion with a clean up and hatch added. I used the Image tracing from our water jet program. helpzor OMAX.dwg
