    Why can't you just pick or window it?

    Another option would be to use the QSELECT command. Under Object Type select 3DFace. Under the Properties drop down list, besides some of the usual properties, you'll find three options for Vertex and four options for Edge. If you can't find what you are looking for with all that then you are doing something wrong.
