    At a minimum one could use plain AutoCAD. Beyond that there is AutoCAD Plant and beyond that you would be looking at AutoCAD MEP or one of the Revit programs. Unfortunately you haven't given us much in the way of specifics so it is difficult to be any more specific.

    I agree with the other comments. The type of piping you'll be designing could dictate which one is considered the best since there are industry-specific programs these days.

    AutoCAD MEP would probably be the most generic that can be use for most all piping industries.
