addysmith97 Posted November 13, 2018 Share Posted November 13, 2018 I would not recommend buying anything below 8 GB for any type of laptop for a professional and i5 or i7 processors are the best pick for AutoCAD in $1000, And you should go for at least Nvidia GeForce 1060 graphics card. Some good laptops for Autocad beginner are : MSI WE72 Workstation Laptop. DELL PRECISION M5510. Microsoft Surface Book. Dell Inspiron 7000. I bought an HP ProBook 450 G5: https://www.microcenter.com/product/504300/probook-450-g5-156-laptop-computer---silver Upgraded it to 32GB RAM. I installed Revit and Navisworks and already jumped into a few heavily modeled projects at home over the weekend and I must say, for this computer, it handled it amazingly well. I went 32GB just because I wanted to, but 16GB would have been just fine. This i5 with the NVME drive and 900 series GeForce, and a license of Win10 Pro for connecting to domains, for only $700 retail, then add a little more cash for the RAM upgrade, is about as good as you can get for the price. What's nice is it's a 15" form factor and still has a 10 key on the keyboard, and it's backlit. My projects and Revit/Navisworks models will seriously buckle a computer and this unit stepped up to the plate and is batting away with ease. Best specs for under $1,000 for a laptop IMHO.
