    Default text string issue

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

    Autocad 2006

I am using a font style that allows me to use a shortcut for fraction inputs.

Example: to input 2'-5 1/4", I type 2'-4%%204". This gives me a condensed stacked fraction in single text input only.

    Here is my problem:

When I input this in and before I hit enter everything looks ok. The fraction is shown like I am used to seeing. But when I hit enter the fraction disappears. Now if I double-click on the text and it highlights it, the fraction appears again, but when I hit enter, it is gone. I hightlighted the text and hit properties and instead of showing 2'-5%%204" in the text string box, it shows 2'-5\U+00D4. If I edit the text string box to 2'-5%%204", then the text is changed correctly.

Why doesn't Autocad recognize it when I just edit/input text without having to go through properties?

come on guys...any ideas? I made sure the font was not corrupt and it is being used on other computers with 2006 and I have used it now for 2 years. I think it has gotta be some text imput command that I need to turn on or off but I have tried and failed.

What command(s) affect the text string imput? It is as if %% executes another set of shortcuts or something.

    Hi,

I'm new here, but I've never been adversed to making a fool of myself when amongst people with greatly superior knowledge

Have you checked the drawing parameters are set up correctly in the 'units' command?

Just a thought, i'm not sure it affects text dialogue input...but thats all I can come up with.

Over to those more in the know

nah, tried that. I did notice in the command line when I hit enter an error message comes up stating "undefined shape 204" I take it the 204 is the shortcut I used to get 1/4". I think the %% is what is tricking Autocad into thinking there is something else going on....

are you sure you have the correct font file specified? (Check in STYLE). I recently couldn't read the Russian text in a drawing although it was fine on all the other machines. It seems AutoDesk have changed the Simplex font to an extended set and I only had the former file available. Why it didn't update is another matter entirely.

% is the AutoCAD shortcut for "modify the following text". as in %p = plus|minus symbol, %d = degree symbol, %c = diameter symbol and %% = % symbol. I think it looks at the characters above position 127 for the symbol IYSWIM. If you are using a TTF font you should be able to use Windows charecter map to view.

I also have Autocad 98 LT and Autocad 2000 LT installed and the shortcuts work fine on those two versions. And like I stated before, when I just dedit text the fraction shows up until I hit enter then it disappears and moves the inch mark over. I can then click on it and go to properties and input %%212 and it works. Is there some sort of command that determines how dedit works?

    Default Stacking

Type 2'-5" 1/4 on Mtext window, highlight 1/4 only, right click and go to autostack. Try if it works out.

sorry, type 2'-5 1/4", higlight 1/4 not the inch symbol, right click, go to stack and a window will appear, where you'll have options to check or uncheck. try & see what happens

nah that ain't it. My shortcut keys don't work in multi-text, only in single text.
