Intel Core i7-8700 3.2GHz or Intel Xeon E3-1240 v5 3.5GHz. Which of these chips would be better for AutoCAD? There isn't much difference in the price I've been quoted between the two and was wondering if it would make much difference.

AutoCAD is a single core application: Xeons are for applications that you use just as heavily like Photoshop and 3DSMax.

Agree on the i7 and +1 to RK in looking at the previous gen cpu for a good deal. For the money spent on the Xeon you won't see any difference, I mean it's a server cpu not a workstation cpu. ;)

I agree with him. Intel Core i7-8700 3.2GHz is good for your application.
