Try the "boundary" command to create new closed polyline.

Without using Map (drawing cleanup), how can I fix a self-intersecting pline. I'm trying to XCLIP xref'd dwg using a pline boundary. Tells me self-intersecting clip boundaries are not acceptable. Usually, I'd use Map tools to fix with drawing cleanup, but I'm currently drafting with ACAD 2000.
Any suggestions? I certainly do not want to redraft the pline as it has many many segments.
Thanks!

If I use the "boundary" command, won't I then need to redraw the entire boundary line? I was hoping to eliminate redrafting the entire boundary with its close to 100 end point snaps...

..obviously you didn't try it ...
No the "Pline" command would be recreating it, the "boundary" command detects the boundaries of areas you pick (similar to hatching) and creates a boundary polyline.

I have also solved this issue by making a small break in the pline.
