I'm having trouble finding an affordable way to get started with autocad. the version doesn't matter i'm looking for a basic introduction to tools, etc. I don't know where i can access the software to learn. any advice would be appreciated.

You could get a trial version for 30 days free, you could also get a reduced cost version if youre a student, however this will plot all your drawings with student version on them.Best way is to get your hands on a copy from somewhere, even if its R14 you can start building your knowledge. You can also get LT versions, that are scaled down versions of the releases that are cheaper.Once youve got your AutoCAD then either use the help menu in AutoCAD or buy a book, you dont have to pay a huge price for the basic AutoCAD books. You could even get the books second hand off Amazon.Failing that if you cant get to grips with a book or help menu look on the net or start a course (though these can be pricey). This website is great help to many of us though, have a look at the tutorials on the home page.Any questions you get I'm sure someone would be more than happy te help you out.

I would recommend enrolling on a short course. Not sure where you are but where I am in the UK there are a number of local colleges offering 2D courses. I started this way and it wasn't too expensive. The 1st 2D module I did was £90.

Once you get your own software you'll be flying though. There are some good books out there and there's a lot of help on the web. I personally like to just fiddle about with new software, press a button, follow the command promt and see what happens. & when I get stuck, there's usually an answer in the forum.

    Good luck!

I learned the basics by taking a course at a Community College...relatively inexpensive
