    Default Replacing a block

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

Hi. Is it possible to re-define a block and have AutoCAD only replace the block in certain layers, leaving it intact in others? I've tried this with the layers containing blocks I want to keep as they are locked, but these are updated as well. Any suggestions? If not, can you suggest a way around this?

    PS: running AutoCAD 2005

The only way i know is to put a different name in the block. If you try to re-define a block all the blocks that have that name will be modify.

I only know one way, that gives a lot of work explode the ones you want to change the name and make them a block again with another name. Maybe someone knows a better way and faster.

if there are a lot to do I would WBLOCK the ones you want to keep to a TEMP.dwg file (removing them from my current drawing). Use the RENAME command on your remaining blocks. Insert the TEMP drawing (exploded).

Try this routine, it will replace blocks (either globally or by selection).
