    Default Dimensioning In Paper Space At Various Zoom Levels?

    Registered forum members do not see this ad.

    Hi,

    I'm using AutoCad LT 2006, and my question is about adding dimensions in paper space.

    Heres my scenario: I have site layout at 1"=40'. I want to create a new layout with a viewport that zooms in on a small section of the site layout. I want to then lock the paper space viewport view and add dimensions in paper space that have the same appearance as if I had drawn the dimensions in model space. Since the viewport scale is dynamic (I can zoom in or out to any size), how do I adjust my dimension scale to match whichever zoom level I choose?

    I know I can create a dimension layer in model space, but I want to learn how to create the proper dimensions in paper space no matter what the viewport zoom level is.

    Clear as mud?

    Thanks,
    ~bugleboy62

    you will have to create a new dimstyle...open up the dimstyle and select the style that you used in model space...once selected click on the new button and rename the dimstyle and hit the continue button...next go to the fit tab and change the value of use overall scale of: to 1 and exit the dimstyle...then make sure that the dimlfac variable is set to 1...

    There is also another way to do it.......only have one dimstyle (the one you normally use) and have the text size of that style set to 0. (You can set the required text size when you fire up the text command).

    Then add the following line to the User Defined Command Aliases section of your acad.pgp file......
    DS, *DIMSCALE

    That way whenever you want to add dimensions at a specific scale, just type DS and enter the required scale...and Bob's your uncle.

    So to add text to paper space just type DS and enter 1.

    I find it all much easier and quicker to do this than to be forever changing dimstyles.

    If you do it hadardman's way, you will need to set up associative dimensioning as well. To do this, type in "options" and then under "user preferences" check the box next to "Make new dimensions associative"

    Text height of style used in Dimension Style = 0
    Dimassoc = 1
    Dimscale = 0

    Dimension in Paperspace; all text, arrowheads, etc. should plot at the same size regardless of viewport scale.
