Default Text added in paperspace hides behind viewport

Hello, I thought this might be a common question but I couldn't find it in the Beginner's Area. Apologies if this has been answered before.

In AutoCAD 2000 I have a viewport onto which I want to add text (it's an exploded view and I want to add assembly sequence numbers). I can add text and it plots OK, however I can't get the text visible on top of the viewport in paperspace. I want to be able to adjust the position of the text so it aligns correctly with the drawing. The only way I can see the text is by selecting the whole area (i.e. the viewport and the underlying text) or if I drag the viewport aside.

I have tried Tools >> Display Order without success.

I have Hide = On in the viewport as I am plotting a view on a 3D drawing.

If anyone can steer me in the right direction I would be most grateful. I can send you the file if that helps.

    Kind regards

    Malcolm

    Unhappy Hide and seek

    Hi! malcolm_macaulay,

    A stab in the dark...........

    Try this.

Double click into the viewport and access VIEW - SHADE - 2D Wireframe.
Back out into Paperspace. I think your text should now be visible? ( If my memory serves me correctly ) If not, forget the rest...
Work on your text to position it etc. Back into the viewport. Change the view to Hidden again. Out into paperspace and print. ( See preview )

Hope this works. It's been a while since 2000!

Thank you Stephen - that works. Cheers.

From your explanation, I assume it isn't possible to have text permanently displayed "above" the viewport, unless you use SHADE - 2D WIREFRAME mode?

That solves my problem anyway. Onward and upward.

Thank you again and thanks also for thinking back to 2000 :-).

    Kind regards

    Malcolm

I think this was a glitch with AutoCAD back then and that was the 'work-around'.
I remember coming across this in AutoCAD class at the 'Tek' all those years ago.
Virtually the whole class was ready to deliver a 'Doc Martin' size 12 into the nearest VDU until our genius tutor found the answer.

I think this glitch has since been fixed.

    Cheers

    Interesting.

I've been learning AutoCAD as I go along with my project, so my understanding is quite shallow.

Thanks again for the help with what must a very old version to most.

Now I have been bitten and am getting ambitious - trying to make Ikea-style 3D assembly diagrams. I started out just to make 2-D cutting files for a CNC router or laser cutter.

    Thanks again.

    Cheers
