on acad 2004 i would hold shift and then middle button (wheel) on the mouse and it would ortho pan (left, right, up, down) only. now it's been changed to a 3d orbit function. anyone know how to get it back the way i like it? i've looked over the cui a bit, but unsuccessfully.

Try typing OPTIONS,then look for the 'User Pref' tab and 'Right Click Customization'.

I'll check tomorow if I get time with 07 at work.

well, i figured out that it's "pan realtime" in the cui menu. but when i shift+click the middle button it executes the command 'pan realtime'. therefore i have to exit the command. in acad 2004 it would work the same as assigning "pan" to the middle button. the command would cancel itself when the middle button was released.
