At least in 2004, you can't "fit" mtext...not sure about 2005, though

My version is AutoCAD 2005. In using HELP to find out how to use the FIT command where you fit in a certain amount of text into boundries, I can't find the FIT tab mentioned in HELP. I just get one dialog box but there is no FIT tab.

I really do not know what mtext is. I used dt in the commcand box to enter my text. I have the student version of 2005 but as far as I know this version should not be incomplete and lack any tabs or options or commands that would deal with the FIT operation.

_FIT is a standard TEXT parameter. Just type TEXT of DTEXT at the command line.
