    Default Inventor Question

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

Hello, I am a newbie to Inventor LT. I created a 2-D drawing in Autocad 2007. I opened up Inventor and inserted the 2-D drawing from Autocad 2007. I was able to extrude the part. I learned that I am not able to edit the part inside Inventor. Is there a way to edit the part in Inventor that was created in AutoCAD 2007? Please advise!

I think you need to be a little bit more specific. If I understand you right, you said you imported 2D geometry from AutoCAD to Inventor and then extruded it, correct? Did you do this in an .IPT "Part" file? It would also help if you posted that file and any error messages that you encountered, like what told you can not edit it? What exactly are you trying to edit? I don’t recommend you learn Inventor in this fashion.

Why can't you edit the part? When you imported the ACAD file did you select "apply geometric constraints"? When you RMB on the extrusion in the model tree, and you select edit sketch, is the entire sketch black? If not, there is no reason that you should not be able to edit the part. Can you post the file? If it is too big to post, go to www.mooload.com and post it there. Then respond with the link.

I did not click on "apply geometric constraints" and it was the reason why I was not able to edit the drawing that was originally created in AutoCAD 2007.

Therefore, after the recommendation, I imported the drawing and made sure there was a check mark next to the "Apply Geometric Constraints" and it works! THANKS AGAIN!
