Default Lay Out tab & dimensions

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

I've created a piece of geometry in model space, but when I go to the layout1 tab and insert a "title block A" and try to dimension the work the dimensions don't match the real geometry that's in model space. Any help would be great. Thanks everyone. RBH

Assuming you're doing this in ADT 2005, why not use the built dimension tools in model space? If I'm using straight ACAD I tend to dimension in Paper Space, but ADT has some wonderful automated dimensioning, why not use it?

    Default thanks for the answer

I've been using ADT3 since I don't have ACAD 2005 up and running yet. So I'm using ADT as if it were ACAD 2005. I was trained on ACAD in 1990 (R10) and since 1991 I've been working at Boeing and using CATIA to design the 777. So my ACAD skills were lost, I'm no longer at Boeing and I'm trying to relearn ACAD as of the first of this month. So I need to get a simple (if possible) straight forward answer as to how I can insert a title block into the layout tab and dimension the geometry so that the scale (1=1) is the same in both views. That's all, no other considerations as to what releases i'm using or anything else, just how I can accomplish this with what I have and how I'm using it. Thanks for the help. RBH

OK, so we'll ignore all the extras of ADT and focus on ACAD basics.
To make sure I understand what you're asking:
You want to insert a title block,
You want to have a viewport scaled at 1:1
You want to dimension in Paper Space

    Problems you're having:
Not sure if you're having trouble with the title block or not

What are you doing to scale the viewport?
-You should be using the Viewport toolbar and selecting 1:1 in the drop down menu.

Have you adjusted the dimscale at all?
-If you have, then you need to set the dimscale back to 1
-When you dimension in Paper space the viewports should be inactive

If those aren't the problem then please write back with a detailed description or even attach a copy of the file.

    Default layout

I've got the view ports set up to show the Auxiliary views that I want to dimension. How do I get the zoom factor of each VP to show the geometry at 1=1 real life size on the page?

You have to have the Viewport toolbar loaded. Just right-click on any toolbar and go ACAD>Viewport. That toolbar has a drop down menu in it. Just make a viewport active by double-clicking in it, then use the drop down menu to choose 1:1.

Double click in your VP then type:
    z
    1/1xp
    then hit enter

I never even think about command line processes. I didn't get into CAD until 2004, so I'm a mouse user.

thanks for the solution, especially you RFRUSSO for the quick simple and direct fix to my problem. I have a follow up ? Now that I've got it dimensioned I need to print it so the view port boxes don't show on the print as well as showing the geometry with hidden view. Thanks again both of you.

The easiest way to have the viewports not print is to put them on the DEFPOINTS layer. That is a non-plot layer. You can create your own non-plot layers or you can freeze the layer that the viewport is on. Still, the most simple thing to do is just change the layer of your viewport to DEFPOINTS
