Bikoholic
Just recently got new workstations and had to reinstall AutoCAD @ work. Those who have been through this knows what a pain it can be getting everything setup and all neccesary variables set to what your used to. On to my problem... When I use the STRETCH command to lengthen extension lines away from the object I am dimensioning, some of the dimension text is not moving with others. Particularly the dimension text that I move away from it's origin and off to the side because the space between the extension lines is not large enough for the text to fit. I know it's possible because my machine at home moves all dimension text with stretch no matter where it is placed in relation to the dimension line. But my work machine isn't doing it. I believe it maybe some variable that I have to set but I can't for the life of me remember what it is. Can anyone help me?
RMS
I usually do this with grips, did you enable grips in Options, Selection tab? Just a guess ......
Bikoholic
Yeah, I have grips turned on. Thanks, but unfortunately thats not what I'm looking for. I'm not talking about moving the text specifically or one dimension at a time either. Say I have a stack of dimensions, say 5 dimensions tall above the object. I need to add a dimension at the very bottom of the stack. So I'll use the stretch command to stretch the entire stack of dimensions 3/8" up away from the object to add space for the additional dimension at the bottom. All dimension text moves up with their respective dimension lines except for those that I have moved the text from it's origin point. Is the layer for those dimensions locked? or what happens when you use the stretch command and select the dimensions does it not select at all??? Bikoholic
Is the layer for those dimensions locked? or what happens when you use the stretch command and select the dimensions does it not select at all??? No the dimension layer is not locked. When using stretch the dimensions and dimension text are selected. I the right click and drag to stretch the dimension and only the extension line and dimension line move the text stays where it is. But like I said this only happens to dimension text when I have moved it from it's orgin. For example a dimension of 2" on a dimscale of 48 (1/4" = 1'-0") the text of 2" is too large to fit in between the extension lines so I move it off to the side of one of the extension lines. Bikoholic
The funny thing is if I select the dimension text only with the stretch command the text will move, but when I select the text and the dimension it is associated with only the dimension moves. RMS
Well you got me on this one, I tried some of the examples you said and I was able to do the stretch dimensions off location and after repositioning the text on my system. Maybe the drawing is corrupt, have you tried a whole new drawing to see if then it will work? Just a guess...........??
Cad64
I'm just not able to reproduce your problem on my machine. Would it be possible for you to post the drawing, or at least the part with the dimensions, so that we can take a look?
Bikoholic
First thank you all for trying to help me with this problem. It's not drawing related in anyway, its system or machine related. That's why I know it has to be a system variable that needs changed. How I know this is I work from my home office 2 days a week and in the office 3 days a week. Using the exact same drawing file, With exact same dimension styles, text styles, etc. my home machine will move all dimension text when stretched. On my machine at work it won't stretch dimension text that has been moved from the origin. I too tried switching many variables here on my home machine last night. I think the only way to figure out or produce the results is to completely reset all system variables, but then I still won't know which variable is causing the problem. I feel that it can't be a dimension style variable or a text style variable, because they are embedded in the drawing. It must be a variable that is machine specific and not drawing specific. Thank you all I know this is frustrating, I've been using autoCAD for 10 years and thought I knew it like the back of my hand. I guess I was wrong. Lol. SLW210
Did you start the dwg from scratch or are you modifying someone else's dwg?
Bikoholic
Did you start the dwg from scratch or are you modifying someone else's dwg? All drawings are created from a dummyfile with preset standards. We had to reinstall AutoCAD on all workstations due to a server change. It used to work but now that AutoCAD was reinstalled it no longer works. Works on my home office workstation but not in my office workstation. I hope I don't get banned for this but here is a list of my system variables if it will help? ACADLSPASDOC 0 ACADPREFIX "C:\Program Files\ACAD2000\support;C:\Program Files\ACAD2000\..." oi81b4u
I work in an office where the DIMASSOC setting gets changed all the time. It should be DIMASSOC (2). Older versions of ACAD the command was DIMASO
portside
Hi, this was a while ago but did you ever resolve this? I have the same problem - for me it started happening when changing from 2009 to 2010 with diff machine. It only happens with dimensions I have edited with "move text alone" as far as I know..
