i have used it quite a lot during my last years in school - haven't got it now though... which is sad.... I liked that program...

Just try not to compare it too much with AutoCAD - they're not really the same..

Well it's more than just a "3D CAD Package". From what I read up on it, it's insane awesome. you can actually plug in 3rd party engineering software (i.e. Trane HVAC Units) and it will calculate your ductruns on the fly. Same goes for Piping/Plumbing, etc. Also it will calculate clearance issues and show you when something's not coordinating correctly. it's a complete B.I.M. CAD package.

it looks a lot more technical and complex than something like AutoCAD MEP '08 which is considered a "3D CAD Package" vs. true B.I.M. CAD programs.

I have done buildings in it- in version 6 and 7 so it was still very much in evolution - and as long a you put in every little scrap of information that you have - the program will calculate everything for you - down to how many sq.feet of floorboards you need in your living room.

And it's all in 3D - you can view stuff in 2D, but everything is drawn three-dimensional from the beginning. not like ADT which is.... well, I don't like ADT - or at least I don't see the point - and let's leave it at that.

The trick to use revit to it's full extent - at least from my point of view - is to really use all the avaible input-fields. A simple example - a wall. Don't just call it a wall and assign a width to it. Revit lets ju fill in exactly what that wall is made up of, down to the c/c-measure of nails if you want...

I know I sound a bit like a salesmen of Revit - trust me, I can rave on and on about it - but I just really like it. And since me and my fellow dissertation-buddies got to be the first test-group at our school (the teachers learnt it at the same time) we had to do some real digging and swearing and lots of trial-n-error to learn it .. so I feel like I have quite a good grasp of the basics in it...but like I said, it was a few versions ago, and I think a lot has changed.
