Computer specs

not sure if this post is in the right place so move it if neccesary...

im looking to buy a new computer that can run autodesk maya, 3ds max, autodesk flame and obviously the marvelous cad 2008.... im not big on computers i.e the specs so could someone suggest a computer powerfull enough to run these bad boys....

First, I would recommend visiting the Autodesk website and printing the system requirements for the software you plan to use. They usually provide at least a "minimum requirement" and sometimes a "recommended" configuration.
I have always been happy with Dell, but don't know if they will fit within your budget. Do an online search and you might find something that will, but look carefully at the components they are using.

The "600 budget"...is that $600???

there are probably some threads on here for computer specs....try the search utility. I usually use the Autodesk "minimum" requirements as a starting point....my budget usually determines where I go from there.

i got a decent base unit for under £200 that runs cad no problem.
downside was that there was no monitor, and ram needs upgrading.
decent sized monitor should cost no more than £200, and ram upgrade should be well under £100

Remember that the minimum reccomended specs just mean that the software will work. Does not mean that it will work quickly, or well. The reccomended specs should be what you are basing your upgrade on, due to that speed being able to use the full capabilities of the program with little to no slowing or problems.

wow, $600 won't go very far towards a computer that will do those type of applications. granted, you'll be able to run them, but I personally would be pulling my hair out on the performance bottleneck... lol
