Default osnap tracking: second tracking line?

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

    Good moring!

I'm having problems with the exercice of the OSNAP tutorial.
The aim is to pick the center point of a rectancle by using osnap tracking and two times the MID osnap to get the middle of the left side of the rectangle and the middle of the bottom side of the rectangle.

My problem is, that I get only one tracking line instead of two as shown in the tutorial. So I'm not able to pick the center of the rectancle.

Does somebody know the reason for this?

when you have selected the midpoint of the first line, you should see the dotted line when you move the cursor away from this midpoint. when you now move the cursor over to the other line to get its midpoint, there should be a little cross left behind at the midpoint of the first line. when you get the dotted line from the second midpoint and move it towards the center, you should then see both dotted lines when they line up.
if however there is another line or something near the center of the rectangle, then a different object snap might try to grab this other line. in this case you might lose the pair of dotted lines.

yes, I'm getting the two small crosses displayed at the same time, but I only can get one tracking line. When I'm near the center, I can switch from one trackin line to the other, but I cannot get both at the same time.

by the way, what lake/sea can I see in the background of your picture?

sorry, but i couldn't duplicate your problem. could it have something to do with your snap settings, so that the cursor cannot land on the intersection of the two lines? i think the key to try to check this is F9 (not sure because my software is german). or it could be a problem with your mouse driver software?

Check the variable TRACKPATH, mine is set to 0 and I see both dotted lines.

Should we be adding this info to FAQ database? maybe tacking it onto another question we've already got in there?

Both lines will not show up until you place your cursor at the intersection. If you try zooming during the operation you will lose the points and will need to reselect.
