Hey Jessica I believe that icon is for viewports.

As in if you have 2 different viewports, you can individually freeze layers so for examply you drew a door in one viewport, and you have an identical viewport, you click that, and it dissapears in one, but not the other.

    Don't panic...
That's the icon to freeze/thaw a layer in the current viewport. If it's showing a snowflake (as in your attached image)the layer is frozen in the current viewport; click it to thaw the layer. If it's showing a sun, click it to freeze the layer in the current viewport.

Jessica, i'd recommend you do some research into an AutoCAD course available over the web or at a local community college, these very basic courses will introduce you to the fundamentals of CAD and teach you all the basics.

IF you are employed and currently working with CAD for work, then your employer should be willing to pay for these courses and they may be of great benefit to you and them.

IF you aren't working and are a student, your school may have programs that you can enter and perhaps even obtain a student version for yourself.

    Best of luck.

That's not the snowflake! That's what you see if you're in modelspace before you ever chango to another viewport! the "snowflake" looks like this:

Yah - I took a couple of 1 week autocad courses 1 & 2 it was about 4 months ago and I remember some things. This is the first thing that I came across that I can not seem to figure out myself.

Viewports you say.. I am going to go check that out.. The weird thing is is that When I open a completley new drawing with no template that icy paper is still frozen or whatever it is. If I click on it.. nothing happens. Like I am unabble to toggle in on or off. I am going to go check out viewports and see if there is something that may be involving that.

    Thanks for all your suggestions

It will not work until you have created a viewport and are in paperspace (Layout Tab).

    Jessica,

In all the years (of which there are many) I have never, ever seen that. So I guess it is an issue of setup, which means it is not that important.
