    Default Mirror Text Problem

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

I am having problems mirroring text in AutoCAD 2000. When MIRRTEXT is set to 1 and I mirror a block of text it mirrors correctly i.e. the text is back to front.

However, when MIRRTEXT is set to 0 and I mirror a block of text it mirrors the text AND turns the text upside. The strange thing is that it turns each line upside down rather than the block of text i.e

    aaa
    bbb
    ccc

The first line aaa would be mirrored back to front and upside but still remain as the first row of text and so on.

This problem doesn't happen when creating a new drawing but happens between two machines running in the office, one with AutCAD 2000 and the other with AutoCAD 2004 LT.

Please help as this is extremely annoying and time consuming to amend.

    Many thanks.

I've had this once before in 2000 but they must have fixed it in the newer releases 'cos I can't reproduce it here... from memory I'd check the STYLE dialogue for the various text styles & make sure that none of them have the Upside down or Backwards boxes ticked.

By ' block of text' do you mean an MTEXT entity, a number of DTEXT entities or a block with either text or attribute entities?

I would suggest go check out MIRRTEXT in the acad help.....not that it will help you much, but a good starting point.

acad help leaves a lot to be desired.

    Failing that, keep asking here.

By block of text I meant multiline text.

AutoCAD help is about as useful as a chocolate teapot!

It's a glitch... I wish I had an older version here 'cos I remember the problem... are there any rotated UCS's in the drawing (or could the text have been created in a different UCS)? It could be trying to revert to it's original UCS.

    Thanks for the help.

I think you are right, it may be UCS related.

I have been having a play with it creating new text on the world UCS which mirrors correctly. Then I checked the properties of the good text against the bad text in Multiline Text Editor where it both texts had a different style uner the properties tab. The good text had style 'ROMANS' and the bad text had style 'SMALL'. So I selected the bad text and changed to 'ROMANS' in Multiline Text Editor and Bob's your uncle it now mirrors correctly. All I need to do now is match properties for the rest of the bad text in the drawing.

    Many thanks.
