About the only way to buy a used copy of AutoCAD is to buy a company that owns said AutoCAD. Seems to be a loop hole but maybe a viable way to do it.

there is an alternative freeware that's very similar, but if you want to be able to supply electronic copies to clients I'd stick with the bona fide AutoCAD

That's interesting, what is the freeware? The purpose here is simply to make and print scaled 11x17 2d plans, and for me to teach my friend how to do it. I don't think any filesharing or electronic submittals will be necessary, but if they are, it could be done with pdf.

If this freeware is the ProgeCAD LT then it is no longer offered. Our old friend Antithesnes or whatever that name was had a link to an old download of it that is probably not authorized by ProgeCAD. Other than this one I know of no freeware CAD program that can open current dwg files. There are cheap IntelliCAD (ProgeCAD is one of these) versions that will do but they are not AutoCAD.

It's either AutoCAd or it's not exactly

i looked into the license transfer thing about a year ago just to see...i contacted a local authorized reseller and they told me that you can transfer the license however there is a $500 fee (thereabouts, can't remember exactly) to do so...however you should confirm this on your end just to make sure...

although there is only a few days left for the promo (october 15th) you can purchase the lt version and then crossgrade to the full for $1995...it's a great value especially if you go for one of the verticals...

In a nutshell, I create 3D models from the client's CAD files or design sketches, which I then use to produce high quality rendered images. Click on the link in my signature to view my portfolio. I'm always looking for work, so let me know if you need any renders. :)

I was going stictly from the EULA:

3.2.3 Transfers. You may not distribute, rent, loan, lease, sell, sublicense, or otherwise transfer all or any portion of the Autodesk Materials, or any rights granted in this Agreement, to any other person without the prior written consent of Autodesk.

I'm sure there are certain conditions wherein Autodesk will allow transfer of license, I just don't think buying it off ebay is one of them.

Damn capitalists. I think this is hilarious. I hope the guys wins the suit. Autodesk has gone way too far with their childish practices and scare tactics.
