Default Good practice to draw in cupboard door openings?

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

    On my 2D Workshop plan.

We have the room, with entrance and fire doors, and the door opening (swing) has been drawn in, using the normal? straight line, and arc.

I'm adding in cupboards, and am wondering, is it good practice to draw in the doors and arc of cupboards in a room, or is it just overkill and messy?

Also, (assuming a cupboard is just a white rectangle) is it normal to draw the door and arc in any standard colour?

cupboard doors should probably be added if they are fixtures rather than furniture

if there is potential for obstruction of any of the cupboard doors it's also useful to have a visual representation

your drawing will be less cluttered if you represent cupbard doors as open by maybe 20-30 degrees instead of the larger angle that doors are usually represented by - and limits confusion

Well I am currently a space planner/designer for Medical Casement (cabinets) company and we do not show the door arcs like you would do for a framed door. We can do it if it becomes an issue. This is in the U.S. btw.

Building engineer from Sweden here - I agree with Strix on the idea of showing cupboard doors open just 20-30 degrees - just enough to display that there is a door, but no so much to clutter up the drawing.

    Thanks for this.

Just to clarify finally, when we say draw the doors, we are only talking 1 (default thickness) line coming out from the cupboard (hinge point) and a part radius from the tip of the door back to the cupboard central point?

I think this is what they're all talking about:

Yes, that's what I thought they meant.

    Thanks for clarifying.

I'm sure they will argue about the colours later

I like it when the door swing extends just a bit, kinda gives the
feel of the old hand drawn archies.....just my opinion.
