    Default SETTING UP A DRAWING

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

I understand when setting up a sheet, that i need to set the limits, scale factor, and the normal settings that are covered in the wizard, but when I do that It still does't seem to work!If I am working on a sheet 11x17 with a scale of 1"=20' I have a scale factor of 240 and my limits should be 2640,4080, also if I want my text to be .125" my text height should be 30! ALL FOR PLOTTING IN MODEL SPACE This should work, well not for me!! help!!!!!
    What am I missing!!!

This may not specifically help you but ....

DRAW in Modelspace plot from LAYOUTS. Never scale in model space.
Paper / drawing limits are not needed since you can draw full scale eg a drawing of the solar system is on the web some where full scale in an ACAD file !

Check out MrT website, it has a range of tutorials including one on setting up a layout and a viewport to enable you to print using paperspace.

Default Plotting In Model Space at a Scale Factor

    This may help.
Draw what you have to draw full size, i.e. do not use a scale factor but draw at 1:1.
When you have completed this, decide what size drawing paper you wish to print out on e.g. lets assume you are using an A3 (420x297) drawing sheet as your final completed hard copy.
Using the RECTANG command, draw an A3 sheet using the bottom l.h. corner as coordinates 0,0 and draw the limits of an A3 sheet on screen.
Obviously what you have drawn at 1:1 will not fit into this small rectangle, but, if for you scale the rectangle using the bottom l.h. corner as your datum point by a factor of say 50 and by moving the rectangle everything fits in nicely, then your final plot will be at a scale of 1:50!
Remove the A3 outline before plotting.

Or put it on a non-plottable layer !

I dont understand how scaleing just the rectangle will change the scale
of the objects in the Dwg. that were drawn at 1to1??
Can you explain it to me? Frank

The rectangle represents the sheet of paper. When you draw the actual paper measurements, your drawing probably won't fit because a sheet of paper can only be so big. When you scale the rectangle (paper) up, you are scaling it by a real world scale factor. So if you want your drawing to be plotted at 1/4"=1'-0", then you would scale the rectangle (paper) by a factor of "48". If you wanted an engineering scale to be used, say 1"=30'-0", you would scale the rectangle (paper) by a factor of "360".

Now, when you go to plot this out, you need to set the scale factor in the plot dialog box to the same scale as your rectangle (paper). Everything in model space should be drawn at full scale. I hope this helps. Hope it doesn't confuse you anymore, either...

Scaling the rectangle doesn't change the scale of the objects...it gives you the scale of the PLOTTED drawing in reference to the PAPER it's plotted onto...

Maybe what I missed was you draw at 1to1 in model space and then
do the rectangle operation in paper space?
