Viewport Question

The last version of AutoCAD I worked with was R12 and that was 8 years ago. I am now working with AutoCAD LT 2005 and I’m a bit lost.

I followed a tutorial that told me to make a simple drawing in Model Space. Then click on the Layout1 tab and draw a title block. Then it said to make a Viewport. When I finished my simple drawing in Model Space and clicked on Layout1, I saw part of my drawing. When I created the Viewport, it created a new version of my drawing that fit neatly inside the Viewport window. I was under the understanding that I wouldn’t see anything from Model Space until I made the Viewport. Why am I seeing two versions of my drawing in Viewport?

You probably have two viewports in your layout. AutoCAD sometimes creates a new viewport automatically the first time you go to a layout. To turn this off, go to Options-->Display, and under "Layout Options" uncheck the box that says "Create viewport in new layouts." See if that fixes it.
