    Default Title Blocks

I would like to create a title block and save it as a template. I seem to remember reading somewhere that you should put your title block on layer 0, or something like that. The problem is I can’t remember exactly what it said to do nor can I remember where I read it. Could someone give me some pointers on creating a title block? I’ve been reading a lot about AutoCAD this week and it’s all starting to run together.

    Thanks a mill.

Ok....I found it. You place your block on 0 layer so it floats and allows you to place the block on any layer you want. This is not possible if the block is placed on any other layer.

You usually also insert the titleblock in paper space, but for schematic layouts you can insert it in model space(as schematics are usually scale-less).Has you titleblock got attributes attached to it?

Thank you Hyposmurf. I will be drawing schematics for the first time and did not know they were dimensionless.

I have not put in attributes at the moment. I will probably do that today.

    Thanks for your help,

    OOOPS! I meant scale-less.

I was just wondering, when drawing an object to be made into a block, do I need to draw everything on ByLayer or ByBlock or does it matter just as long as it's on layer 0?

Thank you very much for the help.

I would recommend using the Xref command to attach your title block drawing into the drawing you are using. This way, if you need to make a change to the title block, all you have to do is open up the title block drawing and edit it. It should automatically update the title block in each of the drawings it is referenced into when you return to that drawing.
I set our systems up where I work like this, and I created a block that I insert with this title block that contains the attributes for data fields. (example: revisions, date, title, drafted by, checked by, drawing name, etc)

Thanks Pringals. I was just about to post a question asking how to update one block that will automatically update other drawings with the same block.

if your using acad2005, the have a new feature called Feilds. this allows you to set up feilds that are edited under the File>Drawing Properties>Custom

Look into the use of feilds in the help section. i have introduced these into my titleblock and has made my life so much easier.
