    Default Confusing Quick Question

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

Hi guys, I have a quick question for you about opening files.

    1. one of the workers at my office has been using 2000 for a while and just upgraded to 2006. he likes to have 2 autocads open at a time i he is copying from one set of drawings to another. when he was using 2000 in the first one, if he opened a file in "woodland" than that autocad would always go back to "woodland" if he were to open a new drawing and on his other autocad if he were to open "foxland" it would do the same and only open the files in "foxland." in 2006 if you try to have to different open if you were to open both again it reverts to which one was picked last on either of the programs as they are not independant in that respect. it just wastes time if on one you only want to load files from "foxland" yet because you opened "woodland" on the other when you open it starts with "woodland" also. if that makes sence.

    thanks,

    alex

Your right about the confusing part...
In 2000 he had multiple sessions of acad open (one for each dwg)..
In 2006 You have multiple dwgs open in one session of acad...
when opening a new file there is a `tick box' Select intial view...
This will look were you want it too....not revert back..when opening..

On a side note, have a look into TOOLS->DesignCenter if he is copying from one drawing to another....drag & drop very easy.

Also ALT+Tab to flick between multiple drawings that are open..

    Hope this helps..
If at first you don't succeed, then maybe failure is more your style.

You could also check this thread for some links to add drawing tabs to your drawing.

Have mutiple drawings open and have them in tabs?

If you just need two drawings open in order to copy from one to the next, I think the best option is drop down the WINDOW menu and TILE VERTICALLY- then you can have the drawings open alongside each other.
