    Default Dimensioning

    Morning,

I am having some difficulty with dimensioning in acad 2005.

I am trying to set up the dim style so that when ever i place a vertical dimension the text sits to the right of the dimension line and reads down the page.

The current style that comes out is the one on the left of the image and i would like the dimension to appear like the one on the right of the image.

I've look all through dimension styling and properties and the only option i have is to manualy rotate each bit of text.

    Thanks for your help.

From playing around a bit, I think the best bet is to go for...

    D<enter>

    MODIFY

    Choose the TEXT tab

In Text Placement box, change the vertical setting to OUTSIDE

This seems to do what you're after for dimensioning to the right, but if you dimension to the left of an object the dimension will be placed to the left. That's all I can suggest though...

I dont know if there is a setting for that, but I believe
it comes from technical drawing standards, where
all text must be read from the bottom or right of the page....
If at first you don't succeed, then maybe failure is more your style.

Just create 2 text styles, 1 for the right side and 1 for the left side.

Never mind, I didn't grasp the original question at first.

You could also rotate your UCS of 180 degrees when dimensioning.
But it looks funny to me, because here where I live the correct way dimensions have to look is the one you posted on the left.
Probably the best solution is the last suggested by SLW
