You can obviously open the drawing. Try saving it out to a DXF file, then open the dxf file and see how you go.
I know it is not a solution, but just may be a work around. I hope.

Here's a curious one. Received an AutoCAD drawing from a stormwater structure manufacturer, with various standard details. One space is open for the insertion of a site-specific detail. I've tried inserting blocks for that detail into the drawing with no luck. "Insert" ends up with a non-existant object that shows up way off in space, but if you zoom in to see it, there's nothing there. The message I get when I do this is:
"Architectural Desktop has detected objects from a future version of this drawing. ADT commands have been unloaded. To work on this drawing, use SaveAsR14 from the original application."
This is happening on the original drawing, on a copy I saved as R14, and on the three specific details I created to insert into this drawing. Even if I open one of the details I created for this detail sheet, I get the same message and same result.
I get the same message when I first open any of these drawings, including the details I created myself (in AutoCAD 2000i). Upon opening, too, there is a long list at the 'Command' line of: ARX_ERROR: eNotThatKindOfClass
Any ideas about how I can get around this problem so I (and others here) can insert the necessary details into the detail sheet?
This problem is not happening with other drawing files I open and use. Thanks to any of you who have suggestions.

Sounds like you need Object Enablers. What version was the drawing created in? You may also need to use DWG TrueView 2008 to open the drawing in the original version and save it back to 2000. The person back saving the drawing may need this Hot Fix.

Like I have said before, this type of problem is how I came across CADTutor.
brassworks, let me know if that takes care of the problem, you may also want to start using DWGGateway from Solidworks, it will allow you to open all versions of AutoCAD DWGs right from your 2000, I never had the Copy/Paste problem open drawings in their original format using it.
You are the one about to hit 3000 posts.![]()

Does this mean the race is on? Truthfully, I have been backing out a lot lately. I have been there, done that. No biggie for me anymore. I just answer what either I can help with knowing I can contribute, or if someoneone annoys me. Which is why my post count has really slowed down.
But you go for your life, mate. I have already been a clean sweep across the top of the board.![]()

Alan: If I knew you posted when anyone annoys you I would have put more effort into it. Thanks for the tip.

Nah, I ain't worried about that, seems the whole site slowed a little the last couple of weeks and others have been getting the answers taken care of. I have been busy with work anyway, I guess with the Holidays coming up and schools on break, it will be slow for a few weeks around here. I have no hopes of catching you and CADTutor can reset my post count if he likes. I just enjoy helping folks and learning along the way. I get to use seldom used commands when helping out on here and learning a few new tricks along the way.![]()

I've dowloaded all of those lovely fixes and such that were suggested, installed them, and gone back to my problem drawings. Still no luck with inserting them or copy-&-pasting them. More error messages:
1) ARX ERROR: eDuplicateKey
2) This application has detected a mixed version of AEC objects participating in this operation. Newer AEC objects will be disallowed from participating in this operation.
3) ERROR: AecLeader cannot find required nodules for application "AecCivilBase".
This is getting me in far deeper than my cyber-pea-brain can handle. (I am too old a dog coming into this electronic profession too late in life to have any affinity for the inner workings of computers. Oh for the days of ink-stained fingers ... !) I may just throw the whole thing out and start over with the contact at the manufacturer. Maybe he can send me the drawings saved another way.
Thanks for your ideas and help anyway, folks. It's always worth a try.

You will probably need the original files that have not been backsaved to 2000. The original creator is the one that needs to save to R14. Are you sure you have every one of the Object Enablers? Try checking for all of your LDT Service Packs and Updates. AutoCAD Service Packs and Updates
If that doesn't help, try doing an audit on the drawings and see what you get.
