i have a flat surface shape of the object im making, i can extrude it, but it remains flat, id like to take this extrusion, and bend it over an arc so itll have a curve to it.. also, i can make the right curve i need of the right thickness, extrude that, but every time i try cutting the shape i need out of it, it tells me "slice failed for selected solid" im posting the photo below of the 1/8" thick piece i need to curve

uuh, what?

This method only works if the part you need to project has been measured along the bend
If not, the shape will 'stretch' along the curve
1) Region or closed polys for both the object and curvature with the thickness
2) Extrude both objects so they fully overlap
3) Use the INTERSECT command

Jon ~

unfortunately there is no tool in autocad to bend and object (i know 3d max does)...one way to get a curve is to extrude an arc and your shape and perform a 3d solid intersect...
unfortunately this method does not take into consideration the geodetic curving of the shape you want projected onto the arc...also you will note that the permiter will have a plumb cut and not be perpendicular to the arc...but perhaps this is sufficient for your modelling needs?..

humm, sorry jon but i guess you beat me to it...did it really take me 15 minutes to post this?..![]()

No worries bud
Jon ~
holy crap.. it worked.. i just made a cookie cutter
i just rendered me a cookie cutter.. and now that i learned how to do that i was able to finish the top piece.. which will be the top piece to my electric violin thats going to be glues to the top of an arched backbone piece.. heres the final 3d render... all that and this was only my third day ever using autoCAD (free trial, 27 days left on 64-bit windows vista)

Good you got it.
Inventor does stuff like this even easier, its' free at the moment dependant on where you live.
Check the Inventor forum section for info.
