I do check as a rule.

The post does not answer my question.

I am not asking about PAN. I want my mouse wheel to zoom

instead of moving the drawing up & down.??????

I had the same problem until i figured that my new Targus Comfort mouse had a brain of its own and was clashing with AutoCAD commands related to the Wheel.

I just solved the problem and would like to share with others still struggling.

Go to the task bar - lower right corner of your desktop and double click on the mouse icon (for me its called Targus Comfort Mouse Driver)

in the new window that opens up - click on the tab that says BUTTONS, now change the setting for Wheel Button to "None" (it should still scroll up and down in most other applications) This solved by problem # 1 the PAN command and Zoom extends at double click.

Then click on the WHEEL tab (on top of the mouse driver window)

select: "Use Microsoft Office 97 Scrolling Emulation Only

Apply then ok.

This will solve problem # 2 realtime zoom using the mouse Wheel

Go back to AutoCAD and check it.

have fun drafting!
