CAn anyone help. I need to copy a map and then draw the contours. I can get the map into Cad but not sure of the best way to make the curved contour lines. Ant views?

You can draw them as polylines or as splines if you're just working in 2d.

If using a civil product then there are different ways to go about producing the contours depending on what sort of data you have to work with.

    Default Autocad Contours with polylines

Thanks for the suggestion to use polylines ---but are polylines not always straight lines?

Yes they are, or to be more specific, they are generally a series of straight lines. But so are contours produced from a triangulation model.

It is easier to draw a polyline as a series of straight lines, then curve fit them afterwards with PEDIT. You can insert more points to keep the curves under control.

You can do arcs in polylines as you draw them as well.
