Another application that they can't sell, so that have to give it away, like Design Review.

I wonder what the people who already purchased Impression think?

Well I for one think that Impression has sell-able worth unlike Design Review (which should have been free from the start). Other unsellable products like Actix, Arch Studio and so on I can see giving them away or killing altogether but I think Impression has a place if they market it in the right way. I think the price point is too high IMHO.

I'm kind of excited that Impression is coming for subscription customers. Honestly I could never justify buying it for as little of us as I would get out of it.

I like Impression but not enough for $500! Now for $150 or so, yeah sure. Now before "someone" comes in with R&D expenses for poor AutoDesk I say that they are big enough to eat this for smaller projects which could be great add-ons for existing customers. Hell, I say give it to existing customers, your existing AutoCAD serial number is your registration code.
They did this (giving it to subscription users) with Arch. Studio and 8 months later it was dead!

I am also a little surprised for as short of a time that impression has been available and as much advertising as they've done for it. Full page ads for it in all the magazines.

But I think that just does to show they seem to really value subscription customers and it's a nice perk if you're on subscription. Autodesk software may be expensive but really seem to be a company that is in touch with it's customers and thats worth alot.

Then it must have been overpriced, or underpowered. Because if it was selling, they would have no need to give it away.

I actually can't remember what the price was, $100 or something IIRC but to charge for a viewer/markup tool is a silly notion to be sure of. Simply look to Adobe Acrobat for the text book example of this policy. Make to tools to review/markup for free and the production tools will all but sell itself.
Well with Design Review you can dimension, redline and markup. Seems to be exactly what you would need. Must have been the price then
