Default Picking a grip and moving it.

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

I'm having a problem. When I pick a grip and want to move it up or down and enter a distance, it only moves the grip left or right. Is there a setting for this? I've never run into this before.

Are you using dynamic input? Try typing the # symbol and then the distance.

I think the # is for absolute coords Cad64?

Do you have polar tracking set? if so what angle increments are you using?

grip edit and dynamic input are a bit odd at first. Using the # will move the point by that amount in the direction suggested. If you have a rectangle and just type a number the length of one of the legs is changed TO the length specified. You will need the # to make it change BY. I cannot work out which leg of the rectangle will change either! I normally use the old stretch command rather than grip edit for nudging the corners of boxes these days.

I assume you guys have played with the Dynamic Input settings?
Right click on DYN and then settings.
You can set whether default is relative/absolute, polar/cartesian, etc.

now I'm used to it I like it. Except with grip edit - which I don't use often enough to warant changing.

Thanks guys. I'll try all these suggestions tonight after I get back home. Or is it back to work? Geez...can't seem to separate the two anymore.

How dare you doubt me! j/k

Nah, I thought the same thing when dbroada mentioned that # symbol in a post a few months ago. I don't use dynamic input, so I wasn't aware of its relevance. Then I tried it and found out that it really does work. So cheers to dbroada for that one. I was merely the messenger boy on this one.

For dynamic input you can use the Tab key to cycle through which dimensions you are changing. Just select a grip, hit the tab key and all the different editable dimensions will highlight 1 by 1.
