For dynamic input you can use the Tab key to cycle through which dimensions you are changing. Just select a grip, hit the tab key and all the different editable dimensions will highlight 1 by 1.

I still use stretch from time to time, especially if I am just abutting to another line or object, but I like the DYN input if I am resizing to a known dimension, seems quicker to me.

Well, it appears the only way to overcome it is to either turn the Dynamic Input off or enter a # before the distance when I want to move left or right.
Turning it off is out of the question. I played with the settings and no dice. I think I'm just going to have to type # before my distance every time. Kind of annoying.
