How do I replace one block with another?

I'm working in ACAD 2008 and have a drawing with multiple blocks (block 'a') that need to be replaced with block 'b'. Is there a command similar to edit/find that I can use to replace the block? I don't want to redefine my block and want to only select certain block 'a' to be replaced, not all block 'a'....

Thanks in advance!

I'm having this same issue. I need block A replaced with block B but not all of the block A need to be replaced. Express tools does not work and neither does "rblock.zip". Using AutoCAD Mechanical 2011.

Just make a new block the same name as the old one. All of the old ones will update to the new one. I just tried in r2012 and it worked fine. When you save the block with the old name it will as you if you want to Redefine the block, tell it yes.

One option is to simply make the block again with the new basepoint. When saved with the same name this will update all the other blocks in the drawing.

The blocks are moving because one or other (or both) of the blocks have their base point defined incorrectly. Try to work out which one is wrong first.

HINT - Draw a line from the INSERT point of the block to see where it is.

This method will not work if you don't want to change all of the blocks.

medo, what method did you use to replace your blocks? Did you use MSasu's routine?

edit:

Well, this may have been a misplaced comment, as this thread goes back a ways. While correct, my observation/comment really refers to an inquiry from a year ago! Hopefully, medo doesn't have a prob with that part.
