Opinions on Managing

I have a question to all the cad people out there...We are a fairly small company. 3 cad operators. One IT guy.....When it comes time to upgrade and time to repath everything for everyone. Or fixing problems with network printers. Whenever there are other issues CAD related...Linking things properly and so on. How do most people handle this? Does IT handle this for anyone?.I have been debating this with our other cad people. IT says that cad is our responsibility. Cad says that IT should get involved and it's their responsibility. I'm sort of on the fence. I probably agree with IT more. We are the cad professionals and should know what to do when problems arise. We really don't have a cad manager....What do others do out there? It's not that this is a big issue. I was just curious what goes on out there. Thanks and sorry for the dumb question..

We have a CAD person in the IS department who handles all this. But we are also a 300+ employee company.

For a company with 3 CAD operators and 1 IS person, I would not expect the IS person to handle the CAD stuff. However, your company should allocate some training time to one of the CAD guys so that he/she can do the job right and not guess (or spend time scouring the Internet, hoping to find the answers)

We have 50+ guys and 2 IT Professionals.. One is Server IT and IT Analyst, and the other is a Program Analyst... We taught them cad thru detailing small jobs, and now they can write ARX, DBX and LISP routines for our departments.. Make stand alone cad programs, add-ons & anything that we require to automate the jobs.. Detailing is now a push of the button, follow the prompts and the 3D model is Detailed with Assembly Drawings, Marking Plans and Material Lists. I think that they should get involved and it is another string in their bow so to speak.. It paid dividends to us..
