    Unhappy deleting a layer

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

I need to update our template. This template has title blocks of varying sizes in model space ( originally put there for those guys that couldn't get their heads around model space/paper space ). Luckily, as it turns out, no-one ever used these, and now I want to get rid of them. Each paper size is on it's own layer. But I cannot delete these layers. A dialogue box appears saying it has not been deleted because layer on 0 or defpoint (no they aren't), it is the current layer (no it isn't), xref dependant layer ( no it isn't ) or it is on a layer containing objects ( no it isn't ). The layer status icon is blue.

I've gone round and round in circles with this.....please help!

    Many thanks
    Davina

With all layers on, thawed and unlocked- try using Quick Select to see if there are any odd objects floating out in space somewhere. Select all objects on the layer in question and delete. Then Purge.

If you still come up with nothing, I know there are some lisps out there that can delete a layer regardless...Try a search, I don't know them off hand...

Did you try _LAYDEL on the command line or Format>Layer Tools>Layer Delete? It will delete layers with objects.

There may be blocks defined in the dwg using the unwanted layers, try purging the unwanted blocks.
If all else fails, try using the Laydel command.

At one time I believe it was an Express Tool. If _LAYDEL won't get it, then search around on the net for some LISPS that will do it.

    Unhappy

Yeah.......I've tried _LAYDEL and it doesn't work.
Zoomed extents/ select all//purging/exploding/delete all.......until there isn't anything on the drawing......but still those layers won't go away.
If there is a LISP to fix this it would be great!

    Smile Ah hah!!

Previously I've been trying Format - Layer Tools - Layer Delete which hasn't worked as said before.
BUT typing LAYDEL in the command line comes up with a completely different tool.....and this has worked!
A very powerful tool to be used VERY carefully I would say!

    Many thanks guys!

Format - Layer Tools - Layer Delete and LAYDEL are the same command. I don't understand how one works and the other doesn't? Unless your menu commands are mixed up somehow?
